March gardening jobs

  • Stay focused. As the weather warms, it’s easy to joyfully flit from one job to the next. Prioritize and finish the most important jobs first.
  • Stay on top of the chickweed, which can be rampant this time of year. It’s easy to pull up—just be diligent and don’t let it take over.
  • Fertilize early flowering bulbs.
  • Do a soil test and add nutrients as needed.
  • Plant roses, trees, shrubs, hardy vines and perennials.
  • Divide and transplant perennials and herbs.
