Mailbox - Letters from our readers

Many thanks

I want to thank you for the coverage of Foxfire’s 40th anniversary in the December 2006 issue [see “Georgia News,” page 9] and to tell you how very much we appreciate that great P.R. We always have a great response from the readers of your magazine, and we appreciate you sharing our anniversary with them this month.

—Ann Moore, president, The Foxfire Fund Inc., Mountain City

Thank you very much for publishing the April “My Georgia” column I wrote about my grandmother [see “Bonding over beans,” page 40]. That’s lovely! My grandmother will be tickled—she’s eagerly awaiting this. She’s still a coquette who very much enjoys getting compliments, and she’s anticipating making all of her cronies at the bingo hall jealous of the attention she’s getting!

I meant to tell you earlier that we all enjoy your magazine very much. Y’all do a great job of capturing the spirit of the communities around here—and not every publication around here does!

—Candice Dyer, Cleveland

‘Right up my alley’

As my dad would have said, “GEORGIA Magazine is right up my alley.” I first read your magazine at the doctor’s office, then borrowed my sister’s copy and finally got around to ordering my own subscription.

I especially enjoyed the issue featuring my hometown of Dahlonega. But I’d have to say what really caught my attention was the Viewpoint column. I was uplifted by Paul Wood sharing his faith.

—Debra Weaver, Murrayville

Hunted for every book

The Dr. Ferrol Sams article was great! [See “Turning a page in time,” February 2007, page 14.] I just happened to read “Run with the Horsemen” a couple of years ago and have hunted for every book by Sams ever since. His life reminded me of my own as the daughter of a country (one-room) schoolteacher.

—Kathleen Doherty, Ringgold

Power of Hope

I just wanted to thank you for covering Walton EMC’s Power of Hope Ride in the latest issue of GEORGIA Magazine [see “Hitting the high road,” December 2006, page 12]. It turned out great! I hope this will help spread the word about the ride and the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life.

—Katie Woodall, community and youth representative, Walton EMC, Monroe

[See “Making music!” March 2007, page 58.] Thank you to mom Leslie Atkinson, who let us know about the error. The correct captions for these photos are as follows:
