May 2007 - Community Events Calendar COMPILED BY ASHLEY SPILLERS WITH JENNIFER HEWETT Step back in time
This year, Rock City, a popular attraction at Lookout Mountain, celebrates its 75th anniversary. Millions of tourists have visited this site since its opening in 1932. The 4,100-foot walking trail with gardens, caves and rock formations lures visitors every year, and its popularity has contributed to a long history and the addition of new attractions. To commemorate the special anniversary, the park is hosting a Founder’s Day Celebration May 19-20 to “Step Back in Time to 1932.” Visitors will be able to “revisit” 1932 with classic specialty foods and retail items while being entertained by costumed actors and dancers. Chattanooga’s big band, Sweet Georgia Sound, will play live music, and those in attendance will have a special visit from the past—actors in costume portraying Rock City’s founders, Garnet and Frieda Carter. For more information, visit www.seerockcity.com or call (706) 820-2531 or (800) 854-0675. —Ashley Spillers
